After Sinbad’s Fifth Voyage

One of my largest oil paintings, I did this for my sixth-form finals. I had explored the theme of folk tales throughout my course, and took inspiration from Paula Rego’s reimaginings of these stories in a modern setting, like Swallows the Poison Apple.
This painting is loosely based on the adventures of Sinbad the Sailor, who is enslaved and ridden by the Old Man of the Sea in his Fifth Voyage.

This illustration started out as a doodle based on the Spiderwick Chronicles, but it was so fun that I just kept going.
This is a study based on an illustration by Brit Spencer, my idol in all things. This was one of my first successful uses of watercolour and black liner together.
Screen print over a collage, developed from a life drawing.
